General Meeting Thursday May 16th – Hal Holmes
The Snoqualmie I-90 Wildlife Overpass — History and Update
We all travel over Snoqualmie Pass, and perhaps wonder about the recently built Wildlife Overpass that everyone speeds under each way. How’s it doing? Does it help wildlife, and are they finding it? Our Audubon meeting in May will be a very special collaboration of 3 people that have worked closely on the Snoqualmie I-90 Wildlife Overpass since its inception.
Two short films of the project will be shown, and then we’ll be treated to great shots and observations of wildlife seen crossing from 2021 up to the present! Each one of our presenters represents one of the three major state and federal agencies that support this work: WA Dept of Fish and Wildlife, WA Dept of Transportation, and the U.S. Forest Service.
Each has worked years on the Wildlife corridor plan. Their insights and reflections will give us perspectives on the importance of the project in maintaining healthy, genetically strong wildlife populations of all kinds on both sides of the “great highway divide”. A great example of collaborative biology that we are privileged to experience!
The presenters—Mark Norman, lead biologist on the Overpass Project for WA State Department of Transportation, Scott Downes, DFW Region 3 Habitat Program biologist, and Patty Garvey-Darda, wildlife biologist with the USFS Cle Elum Ranger District and I-90 Snoqualmie Pass East Liason.
Come join us and bring all of your questions! This is an in-person meeting, at Hal Holmes on May 16th at 7pm. All interested persons are invited, and there will be refreshments. See you there!
